About the Blogject
This is a general blog where I'll spill my thoughts on things that be happening, stuff I be making, or Books I be reading.
Phoenix on the Sword (1932)
-Robert E Howard
The first Conan story proper, though earlier versions of the script were known to have featured Krull of Atlantis instead of the more famous Conan. The world building and initial dialogue feels a bit stiff at times, but Howard really shows his skills as a pulp writer when two subjects come up: Sorcery and Bloodshed. The descriptions of Thoth-Amon's Sorcery features prose that hangs on every word, savors every diabolical phrase, in a way that emphasizes the Megalomaniacal vision of the Sorcerer himself.
Robert also Clearly loves the majesty of the Athletic Male form, he wants to fuck Conan.
Cimmeria (1932)
-Robert E Howard
A short and moody poem that sets the tone for the brooding Anti-Hero that is Conan the Barbarian. Cimmeria is very short, at 15 half-size lines; and as such is able to convey solely the mood, rather than any substance. Mentions of Stone axes and Flint Spears do paint the picture of a Neolithic society, without the blessing of Steel that the famous film portays.
